About Fu Zhen Song
Master Fu’s grandfather Fu Zhen Song, also known as, Fu Ch’ien K’un, was born in 1881, in the village of Ma Po, Xin Yang county, Henan province, China. When he was 16, the martial arts school in his home town raised a considerable sum of money to hire the martial arts teacher Chen Yen-Hsi, the 8th generation heir of the Chen style of Tai Chi Chuan, from the Chen family village. The school also hired Pa Kua Chang instructor, Chen Feng-Ming, also known as Chia Chi-Shan, who was the senior student of Pa Kua Chang creator, Dong Hai Chuan. This was the beginning of Fu Zhen Song’s 56-year career in martial arts.
In his village, Fu Zhen Song practised very hard for more than 10 years, and became a professional martial artist in Tai Chi and Pa Kua Chang. When he was 28 years old, he defended his village against more than 100 bandits by using a steel spear which weighed 8 kg. In the process of defending his village he killed the leader of the bandits. He saved his hometown and his name became renowned.
In 1911, Fu Zhen Song became a bodyguard in the Kai Fung Hsin Chang Protection Services in Henan. He travelled through more than 10 provinces and never lost a fight.
At the age of 39 he was invited by General Li Jing-Lin of the North-East Army to be a drill instructor. Later Fu Chen Sung became Captain of the Bodyguards and taught martial arts to the troops of Zhang Zuo-Lin, Chief of Staff in Bejing. During his stay in Bejing, he continued to research his arts and improve his skills by exchanging ideas with many famous and highly proficient masters.
When he was 47 years old, Fu Zhen Song was selected a Head Instructor of the Central Martial Arts Academy in Nanjing. A year later, Kuang Hsi Martial Arts School was established in GuangZhou city. Li Ji-Shen, the chairman, invited my grandfather to be Head Instructor and Vice-Principal of Liang Guang Kuo Shu Kuan ( meaning: the two provinces names, GuangDong & GuangXi Martial Arts School). In addition, he also taught community groups, army troops, at the Police Academy and at the Zhong Shan University.
While instructing the army, he was able to hire some prominent Wu Dang masters, Sun Lu Tang, Yang Cheng-Fu, Li Shu Wen and Huo Dian-Ge. Master Huo was also the Martial Arts Instructor of Pu-Yi, the last Emperor of the Ching Dynasty. They all became good friends and exchanged martial arts ideas and learned from each other. Fu Zheng Song passed away in 1953 in GuangZhou, China at the age of 72. He had devoted his whole life to the promotion and research of Martial Arts.
